Case 5

A 43 year old man comes into the Emergency Department. He had been trying out his son’s new skateboard and slipped off. He fell onto his hand. He says he is okay except for this elbow that is in excruciating pain.

On physical exam there is significant swelling over the lateral epicondoyle of the elbow.  There is significant pain on pronation and supination of the forearm.  There is significant pain on palpation of the radial head.

Xray – elbow radiographs show  some mild displacement of the radial head and a prominent anterior fat pad. These signs are indicative of a radial head fracture.

This is a nondisplaced fracture. What type of splint would you use?
