A Computer Based Tutorial on Substance Abuse
John Mahler, MSIV
Dear Student, I am a fourth year medical student at the University Of Connecticut School of Medicine doing research as part of a project required for graduation. The principal investigator for this study is Dr. Catherine Lewis.
The title of this study is A Computer Based Tutorial on Substance Abuse
The purpose of this study is to assess whether completion of this computer-based tutorial improves medical students' knowledge in identifying the presentation of intoxication and withdrawal syndromes for commonly abused substances and the basics of treatment.
You are invited to participate in this study because you are a third year student in the psychiatry clerkship and this material is relevant on that clerkship. Your participation is voluntary. If you choose to participate, please complete the enclosed pre-tutorial and post-tutorial questionnaires. While complete surveys will provide better data, you may skip questions that you do not feel comfortable answering, or stop participating at any time. Your response to these questions should take between 10-20 minutes to complete. Click the submit button when you have completed the survey. Completion and return of these questionnaires signifies your consent to participate in this study.
Please note that your answers will be anonymous and will not be used in grading of your third-year psychiatric clerkship. There are very limited risks to completing this study. Your confidentiality may be breached; however, there are procedures in place to protect your identity. That is, there is no link between you and your answers.
I appreciate your participation in this research study. For questions regarding this study, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call the Principal Investigator at (860) 679-7692.
