Comments: This position has developed enormously over the past two years. We have
put a significant amount of time into updating the physician contact information
and reorganizing the record keeping. We now have several of the physicians on
an e-mail contact list and are maintaining running documentation of service provided
at the clinic (dates served, dates served as alternate, last minute contacts).
This information should be very useful when awarding honors to the physician volunteers.
Over the past year, four new physicians have been recruited to the clinic. Several
others have been contacted and recruitment is pending.
We have also established an association with the Hartford County Medical Association.
They included our clinic as a community service site in their annual brochure
photographs.
This position is fun and exciting. It provides the opportunity to work closely
with another SPIC board member to ensure strong physician coverage at the clinic.
The MD Volunteer Board member has the chance to meet several community physicians
and develop numerous community contacts. The board member in this position needs
to be very committed and generally available. There are weekly duties as listed
above, the need for last-minute changes on clinic nights and involved planning
sessions a few times a year for scheduling purposes and for planning the dinner.
The Physician Volunteer must also be personable and approachable. We are the
first contact people for both established physicians at the clinic as well as
potential new recruits. Maintaining strong and friendly working relationships
with these physicians is crucial to the success of the clinic.
