The resident education
program at South Park Inn Medical Clinic has evolved over
the past several years. Currently medical students are able to access the online curriculum which we hope will further enhance the development of this program.
The lesson plan topics have been chosen for their relavence to the healthcare of the residents of South Park. Each lesson plan has been written following a general
outline in order to address key issues. In addition, background
information is included in the lesson plan to aid in preparation
for the presentation. The information provided is accurate
and up-to-date to the best of our knowledge, but should not
be used as the basis for medical decisions.
The education
sessions are designed to be interactive discussions with the
residents and staff. This can be facilitated by the use of
diagrams, handouts, pictures, and the dry eraser board that
we have at the clinic. Each talk generally lasts about 15
minutes with time allowed for questions during and afterwards.
Since the men and women/children are separated at the shelter,
we conduct two sessions per talk, i.e., one for each group.
Also, many of the lesson plans are designed to be conducted
during clinic hours at the South Park Inn Medical Clinic.
This allows for screening, treatment, and referral processes
to accompany each talk.
